I’ve watched this all the way through the launch plus about ten minutes. I gotta admit, I got a bit verklempt when that mighty Saturn V lifted off. Even if we go back to the Moon, it won’t be the same. What an extraordinary endeavor.

People shouldn’t feel bad about not getting humans back there recently - it was just a beginn ing, checked that box. . We have been doing all sorts of crazy, amazing stuff since then, shuttles, amazingly scrappy Mars rovers, probes to the entire rest of the solar system, spectacular telescopes, landed on a f’n asteroid, (Ha yabusa was w/in SIX FEET of it’s target after THREE BILLION miles!) and of course the current launch race done up with all it’s theatrical glory. I personally can’t wait for some of the planned Europa missions.

That Falcon stuff is insane. I marveled at the last one, watching the boosters land etc. Pretty amazing. I think my gut feeling about Apollo comes from my being an armchair historian and having an affinity for that period of history (I was born in 1966). Watching that broadcast really felt nostalgic, even though I was only three. I know that there have been some truly incredible feats since then, but none seemed to have the same weight of history for me.
